What makes PEAK unique?
PEAK Theatre Arts is a culturally responsive theatre company providing high-quality theatre arts enrichment for students in grades K–12. Our programs reflect and respect students’ cultures, encourage academic and artistic excellence, develop critical consciousness, and foster a strong sense of community and connection. We invite students to see themselves reflected in the stories they tell—and to value the stories of others, especially those historically excluded from traditional theatre spaces. We are nurturing future leaders, compassionate collaborators, and bold, empowered storytellers.
Created in 2019 to fill a gap in the quality theatre arts enrichment in our Inglewood community, we believe theatre should be both a mirror and a window—a mirror to see oneself clearly, and a window to understand others more deeply. PEAK Theatre Arts is led by a highly experienced actress and teaching artist, Ms. Jessica Alvarado, who brings over a decade of experience in theatre arts education, curriculum development, and culturally responsive instruction.
Every play, scene, and story we bring to the stage is intentionally selected to amplify voices that have been historically silenced or overlooked. From contemporary works by BIPOC playwrights to reimagined classics told through a culturally conscious lens, our programming centers narratives that reflect the richness of our students’ experiences. We also honor the legacy and lineage behind those identities by weaving in culturally and historically relevant stories and practices. As a result, empowering students to know where they come from and imagine where they can go.
